Although race lacks any biological roots, the lie that it promotes, that we are separate from each other, distorts our understanding of ourselves as well as each other. This is the wound. Racism breeds in that space between us. The South African ethic of Ubuntu reminds us that “a person is a person through other persons, and that our humanity is completely tied to the humanity of another person.” This wound must heal so that we can experience our full humanity through each other.
